McGohan Brabender maintains a retainer relationship with Paul Routh, Attorney at Law. Paul is partner with the Dayton, Ohio law firm Weprin Folkerth & Routh LLC and has over twenty five years’ experience. In addition to being a lawyer, Paul also is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has an advanced law degree (LL.M. in Taxation from New York University). Paul specializes in ERISA and employee benefit law. Mr. Routh is the author of Welfare Benefits Guide: Health Plans and Other Employer Sponsored Benefits which is a 1500 page treatise published by Thompson * West.

Although Paul is located at our corporate address, it is important to note that Paul Routh is not a McGohan Brabender employee. Instead, Paul is an independent lawyer who is on retainer for McGohan Brabender clients. This was a conscious decision to avoid any conflict issues and to ensure that Mr. Routh is working entirely on our clients’ behalf and in their best interests.

Paul’s assistance to clients includes, but is not limited to:
  • Assistance with the annual filings requirements (i.e. Form 5500s) under ERISA;
  • Legal/technical assistance with COBRA and HIPAA issues;
  • Legal/technical assistance with FMLA and/or other legislation effecting employee benefit plans;
  • Legal/technical assistance with Cafeteria/Section 125 Plans;
  • Review of Contracts, Plan Documents and Summary Plan Descriptions;
  • Counseling clients on specific issues.
Most of McGohan Brabender’s client communications regarding governmental and/or legislative changes begins with Paul Routh. Paul is able to monitor proposed and enacted legislation at the Federal and State levels. Paul provides our brokers and support staff with periodic updates on various legislative changes. These legislative updates as well as industry trends and other timely data are incorporated into different communication vehicles we have developed to help keep McGohan Brabender clients informed. These communication pieces include our Newsletters, Learning Center, Flash Updates and Ask-Ben HR portal.
