What pets did you have growing up?

Emily: When I was 7 my grandfather got me a puppy for my birthday. He was a little cavalier king charles spaniel and his name was Rusty and he died a year ago when he was almost 13. About…two years ago, I think, we rescued another cavalier who was going to be euthanized by his breeder because he was born with a crooked nose. His name is Charlie and he loved Rusty but Rusty hated him. Charlie thought they were the best of friends, though.

Your ideal way to spend the weekend?

Emily: Oh! My best friend’s family has this great place in Kentucky right on the Ohio River. They have this great restaurant that’s on the river that you get to from the dock. I would spend the entire weekend up on the roof of my best friend’s place with her just talking, watching the sky, and listening to the trains go by.

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

Emily: Man, so many things. Um, continuing work here at MB, I’m looking forward to going on vacation with my family, going to music festivals with my friends and I’m excited about going back to Toledo to start my Resident Adviser training and welcome all the freshman to campus.

How do you de-stress after a long day?

Emily: I’m a big self-care advocate so I like to go to the gym every day after work and do a skin care routine afterwards. Exfoliate, moisturize, cucumbers on the eyes, the whole nine yards. I also like to snuggle up with my pup for the rest of the day just because who can be stressed when there’s a puppy around?

What gets you fired up?

Emily: Music always gets me going. I have a set playlist of songs that get me excited for the day and for anything I have to do during the day. Other than that? Hm… During University of Dayton men’s basketball season? You know the beginning part where it’s all dark and then they turn on the lights and all the players come out with music and the crowd erupts in this crazy frenzy? That gets me fired up, every time, without fail. I wish I could replicate that feeling throughout the day.
