Battle of the Businesses 2018:
What you need to know
What is Battle of the Businesses?
Battle of the Businesses started in 1981 as a Dayton YMCA program designed to promote teamwork, corporate unity, communication, and physical fitness. It is a fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics of Greater Dayton. Last year, with the help of participating companies like MB, they were able to donate $86,059 to the Special Olympics of Greater Dayton.
To kick off this year’s event, we interviewed some of this year’s MB participants: Brian Doll, Dammy Orebiyi, Tiffany Kuck and Robert Chaddock.
What is the best event to come out and
watch or participate in?
Dammy Orebiyi: I would say that the final day, that Saturday, is the best day to come out for. We set up a tent and grill out with hamburgers and hot dogs. While we’re sitting around waiting for our events to start we play cards and talk to each other. It’s a great way to build relationships with people at MB that you may not work with on a daily basis.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Robert Chaddock: I’m looking forward to competing with other people and companies in the Dayton area that are similar to McGohan Brabender.
What is your favorite memory from prior years?
Brian Doll: The camaraderie and the atmosphere is so fun because everyone knows why you’re there. When the Special Olympians participate in the event the crowd goes crazy. When you see everyone cheering and you’re reminded of why you’re there!
How do McGohan Brabender employees benefit from participating?
Tiffany Kuck: Participating in the events gives MB employees the ability to learn about other companies in the Dayton community, their employees and their different work cultures. MB is always looking to grow a happier and healthier work culture. By learning about other companies’ culture traits we hope to embed those into our work culture at MB and keep growing!
Each year McGohan Brabender sponsors the volleyball event in Battle of the Businesses. For the past two years we’ve missed out on finals by just a hair so our goal this year is to make it to the finals and win! Come out and support the MB family as they participate in the volleyball tournament at the University of Dayton Rec Plex on Saturday, June 2 at 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
