McGohan Brabender is proud to announce a new leadership team. Vice President and Managing Shareholder Erick Schmidt is now Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer Beth Ferrin has been named President & Chief Financial Officer.
They succeed CEO Scott McGohan and President Mike Suttman, who will be transitioning from day-to-day operations. McGohan and Suttman will join Tim Brabender in chairmanship roles and will continue in advisory positions and involvement in ongoing company initiatives.
The leadership change is the result of an established long-term strategic plan to ensure the company’s continued growth and independence.
“For the past several years, having worked next to them, we have seen firsthand how Erick and Beth have sincerely earned the trust and respect of our people, our customers, our shareholders and our industry,” McGohan said.
Schmidt graduated from the University of Cincinnati and was director of sales for Anthem’s Dayton, Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky markets before joining MB in 2001. He opened MB’s first new market, in Cincinnati, in 2006. Under his leadership, the office grew from four employees to over 40 today. It was named “Best Places to Work in Cincinnati” multiple times by the Cincinnati Business Courier. In 2020, Schmidt led MB’s expansion to Indiana and then Kentucky earlier this year.
“When I decided to move to the broker side, I looked around and it was clear that McGohan Brabender stood head and shoulders above the rest from the standpoint of helping their clients,” Schmidt said. “I knew there was an opportunity to bring the McGohan Brabender brand to new markets and am proud to have led that expansion. Beth and I are extremely fortunate to be entrusted with a strong foundation to build on, and rich culture of empowering businesses and empowering people. We are ready for the future and whatever challenges it presents.”
Ferrin graduated from Wright State University and was a tax planner and consultant for a regional CPA firm before coming to MB in 2011 as chief financial officer. She oversaw as the company grew from 130 employees to more than 200 employees in five markets. Her duties included fostering carrier relationships, investment strategies, and executive team responsibilities.
Both Schmidt and Ferrin were instrumental in orchestrating McGohan Brabender’s transition to employee ownership in June 2021.
Suttman joined the company in 1987 and was named president in 2010, focusing on strategy development and internal operations while maintaining client relationships.
Scott McGohan came to MB in 1988 and was named CEO in 2010, focusing on vision casting, strategy alignment and leadership development and deployment. He launched MB’s long-running Side Affects: Disrupting Health Care podcast in 2016.
McGohan Brabender was founded in Dayton as McGohan and Associates in 1972 by Pat McGohan. The company has offices in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis and Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
